Kelis - Acapella (new song produced by David Guetta)/rant

NOOOO NOOO NOOOOO NOOOO FUCKING NOOOOOO! I've been reading about Kelis' comeback for like years now...and I was looking forward to it - like REALLY looking forward to it! I'd read about the different sorts of people she was working with and welcomed the diversity it promised (e.g. No Security with Crookers)! And now I find this piece of musical SHIT produced by David Guetta which is gonna be the first release on her new debut album.

Yes..yes, this probably will be a big club hit, infact I'll probably hear it in my own student union. However you must ask yourself, 'What determines a *big club hit*?', when all the "clubbers" are so off their face on ecstacy, then wouldnt know if you smashed them over the head with a concrete tonne!

Anyway I found myself wondering why Kelis would do this, why would she put her fans through such total suffering and pain...I'll tell you why:::

Kelis had been signed to Will.I.Am/Interscope Records after leaving Jive. And so no wonder she's making this housey, generic, boring crap which REALLY does not compliment her singing capabilities...Will.I.Am is the KING of selling out!
Who remembers when Black Eyed Peas (pre-Fergie & when the lightskinned one was quite sexy!) made songs like this...

But then Will.I.Am got blinded by the dollar signs, signed Fergie (after receiving rejection from Nicole Schnigerzeringerzingzinglalalacher from PCD) and starting making electro/pop crap!

Well after making no p's from 'Kelis was Here', Jive dropped her like a plate at a Greek wedding..she got married, up the duff and later divorced and then realised..."shit I aint got no money, my baby-daddy dont love me no mo' and I need to get my hair and nails diiiddd!". So called on Will.I.Am the King of "I weren't making any money in my previous genre-cataegory, so hey Ima just jump on this pop bandwagon for a while until I get bored/fat/ugly/Fergie pregant" and hey presto, we now have another artist that has let go of their artistic integrity like a silent, but violent fart in pursuit of $$$$!

*sighs* and plays Kelis 'Young, Fresh & New'

p.s. her new stylist needs to get SACKED!

TRYNA BE ME - TINCHY STRYDER FT. RUFF SQWAD

This is a smart move by Tinchy Stryder's management, its grimey...but not toooo grimey! I don't think the fans shown in this video would appreciate truuuuuue grimey bars! So its like a risk, but a calculated risk. I wonder if this will do as well as his electro/grime pop tracks, its only got 24,046 youtube views since 10th November....

Griminal – Invincible ft Mz Bratt - Official Video

I like this. But they should have cut the vid at 3:43!

Wiley feat Chew Fu - Take That (Official Video)

Absolute tuneage!
Wiley has, in my eyes, crossed over into the world of electro, but not in annoying "I'm gonna chat nonsense about girls" kinda way, but instead in a heavy-based, gun-finger-worthy chew-fu produced kinda way!
The video is cool! 1000% better than the other crap UK puts out! Just perfect for a grime mc over an electro beat really, still maintained some urbanisms whilst having the crazy girls and light-dancing for the electro fans!
The editing is on point, the girls had make-up professionally done, the cameo's weren't over-done.
Ahhh I just LOVE this song :-)
Apparently it's out on December 28th!

I recommend you visit Ecoutez

I came across a cool blog today whilst scouring the net for some dubstep! Ecoutez is managed by two midlands girls and features info, mp3's and music news on the best & latest in Dubstep, Funky, Dancehall, Electro and other random genres I'm not sure of the name of! They also post up their favourite remixes of the week every Thursday which is really cool. Expect lots of Switch, Diplo, M.I.A. and Burial as well as UK Funky and some Bashment! These girls are actually into their music and know what they're talking about!

So yeah click on the pic, check out their blog and see what all the fuss is about!

Crookers - No Security (feat. Kelis)

This song has really grown on me. I welcome the fact that Kelis is diversifying her musical capabilities. Granted, we can never go back to the Kaleidoscope days, but this is a new project (RnB meets Electro, proper electro) just like her collaboration with Neptunes was back in the deezayyy, and so I'm willing to give it time!
p.s. what on earth is the video about???

Beyonce ft Lady Gaga - Video Phone

Lady GaGa did surprisingly well in the singing and dancing categories for this video.....they could have given her some booty padding for the body category though man...come on she is standing next to Beyonce for a good portion of the vid!
Beyonce delivers once again in terms of singing, sexiness and the ultimate in lady-swagger (i hate that word!), can't believe I missed out on her concert :-(

1 Day the film gets banned in Birmingham

1DAY, is a film by Director Penny Woolcock - described by some as the British "Boyz In The Hood" and dubbed Britains first "Hip Hop" musical. I'm not going into details about the synopsis about the film...you can read it on the official website here. I am instead going to bring to my readers attention the controversy surrounding the subject of the film (street life and gang-wars in inner-city Birmingham) and cinemas & police in the Birmingham area that have BANNED the film from being shown in certain cinemas. Their justification for this? They believe the film glamourises gun crime.

According to the Independent Newspaper, the ban started when a uniformed police officer personally advised the manager of an Odeon Cinema in Birmingham against screening the film. This manager obeyed his "advice" and other cinema managers followed suit!

Joseph Patterson wrote an article on "1 Day" on the Independant Minds website which also discussed the gross misconduct and unfairness of the police officers creating a ban on the film being screened in its home city. He raised an issue, which rang alarm bells in my head:

"The reason why guns and drugs are mentioned so much in the film is because that's the story line, just like a James Bond film would have, so what's the difference? Because they're black? This film gives the audience a real look at how many young black people in the UK are living in today's society, everything isn't all cups of tea and The Queen, like Nick Griffin would like it to be, so get over it."

I 100% agree with what Joseph has written. And not only do I think that this could be a MAJOR example of racism and prejudice...but also a MAJOR example of censorship.
The film is based on postcode gangs and gun culture in the inner city of Birmingham, its an insight into what REALLY goes on, an exposure of what some of Birmingham's youth (and, in effect other major UK cities) are faced with and involved with everyday and essentially:
an exposure of the lack of effective policing in inner-cities!
The film has recieved huge support and exposure, from multiple forums, bloggers, reviewers, journalists, musicians - also the film received £65,000 in funding from the UK Film Council. The film was shot on the streets of Handsworth with the cast recruited from nearby neighbourhoods. The police have put a ban on this film to prevent the general public - people that aren't involved in gang-culture...from finding out the truth of what really goes on. Is this censorship or social-control?

Anyway sorry to go deep and political on you....below are a list of cinemas in Birmingham (the film is not banned anywhere else in the UK) that are showing the film:

Wale “Fragile” (Feat. Chrisette Michele) video

The second single from Wale's debut album, "Attention Deficit" - one of the best hip hop albums of 2009! I describe him as the new Kanye, remember the old Kanye...before the alcohol and the women and the louis vuitton sneakers and the emo-hop..yeah THAT Kanye!

I think I quite fancy Wale...
